At the heart of our school is a strong commitment to the individual care, development and welfare of every pupil. Our Learning Support provision is designed to help all children become confident, independent learners, able to reach their full potential.
We place great emphasis on early identification of learning needs, enabling timely and appropriate intervention to support progress and well-being from the earliest stages. When a child needs additional support, we work closely with staff and parents to understand their needs and agree the most appropriate steps forward. This may include differentiated classroom strategies, small group work, or one-to-one specialist teaching.
Our experienced Learning Support team works across the age range and supports a variety of needs, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, ADHD, social and emotional challenges, and low self-esteem. We aim to provide an education that is tailored to each child’s individual profile, helping them overcome barriers to learning in a calm, positive and engaging environment.
We use in-house assessments to inform our teaching, and each pupil’s progress is regularly reviewed in partnership with parents and staff, ensuring support remains appropriate and effective throughout their school journey.
Where needed, we liaise with external professionals such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists, and can support families in arranging formal assessments. We also ensure that, as children prepare for senior school entry, they receive the guidance they need to approach assessments with confidence, including advice on ISEB access arrangements where appropriate.
We believe in encouraging self-awareness and pupil voice, helping children understand their own learning styles, celebrate their strengths, and develop the confidence to advocate for their needs. Wherever possible, support is integrated into the classroom so pupils can learn alongside their peers and share in the full educational experience.
Our well-resourced and welcoming department includes dedicated teaching spaces and a sensory/therapy room, offering a safe environment where children can focus on areas of difficulty without feeling exposed or under pressure. Support sessions are designed to be engaging and fun, building resilience, independence and a love of learning.
All staff receive training in inclusive teaching approaches, and the Learning Support team plays an active role in sharing expertise across the school, as well as with other schools and local organisations. Together, we foster a whole-school culture of inclusion and understanding, where every child can thrive.
